2016

October 20th – 23rd, 2016
Lake Oconee, Georgia

Directors:  Fitzy and Clanga

For the FIRST time ever in the 40+ years of getting together, we had a total of 15 :brothers” attend!  Fitzy, Clanga, Clance, JC, Kenny, Bobby, Gerry, Spuff, Pete, Billy, Geno, Ernie, Vineyard Jim, Davey and Jake.
Two guys could not make it at the very last minute (Ricky and Gut).   Good to see a couple of guys come out of retirement to join us.

Had 2 guys from Chicago, 2 from Florida and the rest from the Bay State.

Some guys showed up early (Wednesday), some later (Friday) but everyone had a ball!

Friday: Spent most of the day catching up with old buddies and looking around Fitzys place.  There was a short frenzy for the late arrivals looking for the right inflatable bed to reside in.   There was a space reserved for “electronic (aka CPAP) machines” but only a few brothers brought them.

Took a great boat ride across Lake Oconee (photo above) to dinner and pigged out.
Had a private room for dinner and then the midnight cruise back to the house, where we had to put up with Ernie until 3:30 am.  Wasn’t until Fitzy threatened him that he settled down and went to bed.

Good to see Davey keeping us safe by checking the expiration dates on the beer we were drinking.   He’s always looking out for our safety.  Just don’t ask him to do it in a crowded restaurant.

Notables:  Ernies new nickname:  Bobba.    Lookin good!

Saturday:  Woke up planning to take a couple of pontoon boats out for a spin, but the cold weather and wind did not cooperate so we postponed it and had a great time at the Antique Car Museum.   We then went to lunch, where we also played Corn-hole, and had a putting contest where Brother Billy won.  Spent some time sitting by the firepit sucking down suds.

Came home where some brothers spent the time napping while others played whiffle tennis.  Curran brothers were the All-Stars in this one.  Close second was Bobby then Vinyard Jim.  Brother Gerry took a leak right in the middle of the field.  Geno spent the time watching us from the owners box (a seat far enough away so that he could still witness the ugly events taking place but far enough that he didn’t have to get involved.  Smart move).

Oh, should note that Brother Bob took a spill out for a walk with other Brothers early today... got a nasty gash on the bridge of his nose.  Can anyone say:  Stop, Drop and Roll?

After this we went to a local restaurant in Greensboro where we spent most of the night wolfing down awesome Southern cuisine... especially full rack of ribs followed by Buttermilk Pie for dessert.  Awesome.
Oh, we tried fried green tomatoes and fried pickles.

Came home to watch the Chicago Cubs clinch the National League pennant and also listen to some boring talk about NASCAR.  Really, tho?

We also came up with some rough rules for anyone thinking of joining our “club”.
They are (in no particular order):

  • Must be able to fit into a large size of Depends,
  • Must not be embarrassed if you soil yourself,
  • Must be able to handle Ernie, Gerry, Dave and Clance... again, in no particular order,
  • More to come, as I forgot alot

Not as noisy as Friday night, but still a long day.

Oh, overnight someone pulled the plug on Brother Jake’s bed and he was heard whooshing out of air and had to spend the night lying on the floor.  ugh.

Good to see Dave bring his CPAP machine... only to hear it didn’t prevent him from keeping others awake.  Seems the issue might be a bit deeper.
Also, it is very apparent that other Brothers might be in need of a CPAP as they were just as loud... are you listening Spuff?

At midnight, our next years elections were taken.   Nominations were slim as the Curran brothers were nominated and they quickly accepted to house our next 2017 ABC trip to Chicago... so on to Chicago we come!

Sunday:  Woke up to great smelling breakfast.  Shortly after it was time to leave.
Pete, Clance and Gerry took off early to golf near Stone Mountain before their trip home.  After that, Erik, Bob, Dave, Jon and Spuff took off to their flights.  The remainder of the guys stayed for another day before they departed.

Great time (again).   Thanks to Clanga and Fitzy (and Mary) for organizing.
